SonoTAP ll - Ultrasound Guided TAP Block
SonoTAP ll features the following hub modifications:
• Integrated injection tubing to prevent leaking.
• Colour coded hub for quick guage identification
Abdominal blocks, in particular TAP (transverse abdominis plane blocks) and rectus sheath blocks, are increasingly finding application in the management of post-operative pain from abdominal surgery. Well suited to day surgery, and with a low side effect profile, they provide an alternative to epidural anesthesia for abdominal surgery.
Highly visible needle tip
Where conventional needle tips are cut in a single bevel, SonoTAP ll's tip is cut and ground with 2 bevel angles for increased Ultrasound reflectivity at the tip.
Cornerstone Reflectors on Needle shaft
Moreover, incorporated along the distal 20mm of the cannula “Cornerstone” reflectors ensure ultrasound reflection at steep and shallow angles alike. Cornerstone reflectors are arranged 360° about the cannula ensuring definite and clear identification in any rotation of the cannula.
Applications: Unilateral blocks, Bilateral blocks
• Easy puncture
• Early mobilisation
• Shorter hospitalisation

Cornerstone Reflectors
• The embossed structures in the Cornerstone Reflectors form three surfaces which meet each other at a 90° angle guaranteeing direct or indirect reflection of the ultrasound waves - even at very steep insertion angles.
• Cornerstone Reflectors are arrayed along a length of 20 mm from the tip of the needle and moreover are arranged 360 degrees about the needle thus ensuring clear identification of the needle under Ultrasound.
Performance of an ultrasound guided TAP block (subcostal, anterior access)
The injection space for the TAP block is confined and lies relatively deep.
The facet grinding of the SonoTAP cannula tip enables clear identification under ultrasound, and moreover enables precise localisation owing to the fascial click on penetration.
