CSE - Combined Spinal-Epidural Technique
This much discussed technique combines the low failure-rate and reduced latency period of spinal anaesthesia with the option of prolonging anaesthesia through the peridural catheter as required. Combining an epidural needle with the Standard Sprotte Spinal needle offers the clinician the instruments of choice to perform CSE through a single puncture.
EpiSpin Lock for CSE - Tuohy Needle with rear outlet
Featuring a Tuohy Epidural needle with rear outlet for passage of Sprotte Spinal needle. By eliminating friction during the spinal needle's passage through the Tuohy, the important tactile sensation of dura puncture is unobscured. Further, dura puncture location is certain to not coincide with subsequent catheter contact with dura.
Advantages/Features
• Combines Spinal & Epidural anesthesia in a single instrument.
• Atraumatic Sprotte Needle greatly reduces incidence of post puncture headache.
• Sprotte needle's magnifying hub ensures quick identification of reflux/flashback.
• Unique clamping/locking system fixes Spinal Needle at desired depth.
• Dura puncture location is certain to not coincide with subsequent catheter contact with dura.
• EpiSpin Catheter kits available with Standard or SOFT epidural catheter.
In advancing the Sprotte Spinal needle, as its black outlet marking (A) is observed to enter EpiSpin Lock, the Spinal needle's tip is then beginning to exit the Tuohy needle's rear outlet. (B)
EpiSpin Lock twists securely onto hub of the Tuohy needle. (C)
The Sprotte needle's magnifying hub ensures quick identification of flashback. (D)
When fully inserted, the Sprotte spinal needle extends to a maximum of 14mm beyond the backhole outlet of the Tuohy needle. (E)
Left: Once spinal needle is advanced to desired depth, clamp is closed, thus fixing the needle tip in place. The stylet (whose cap is orange in photo) may now be removed & spinal anesthetic introduced.
Middle: Upon administration of spinal anesthetic, Epispin Lock is twisted free of the Tuohy hub & removed together with the Sprotte spinal needle.
Right: The epidural catheter is now placed into the Tuohy cannula, which remains in position.
