When introduced to the world in 2009, SonoPlex STIM quickly become recognized as the standard against which all competing Single Shot nerve block needles would be compared. A pioneering embossed needle surface, CORNERSTONE REFLECTORS, provides clear and certain needle imagery under Ultrasound guidance, while the patented NANOLINE ultra-thin coating ensures the ultimate in smoothness of needle surface while eliminating the problem of increased needle diameter presented by conventional thick insulation coatings.
What has changed?
Small, but significant evolutions are found in SonoPlex STIM ll's needle hub alone:
• DETACHABLE STIMULATION LEAD WIRE.
SonoPlex STIM ll may be placed under Stimulaton guidance or Ultrasound guidance or both. For those who wish to use Ultrasound guidance only, SonoPlex STIM ll's new hub design permits the lead wire to be detached - rather than cut - thus preserving the sterile field.
• INTEGRATED NON-DETACHABLE INJECTION TUBING
SonoPlex STIM ll's new hub design incorporates its injection tubing as a non-removable component of the needle, thus creating a closed system and so eliminating the possibility of leakage.
• COLOUR CODED NEEDLE HUB
For quick needle size (guage) identification.
What has not changed?
• CORNERSTONE REFLECTORS
The revolutionary embossed surface that permits Ultrasound reflection "In" or "Out-of-plane" and at any angle of needle placement, thus providing always a clear reflective Ultrasound image.
• NEEDLE TIP GRINDING IN 2 INCLINATION ANGLES
Where conventional needle tips are cut in a single bevel, SonoPlex STIM and SonoPlex STIM ll are cut and ground with 2 bevel angles for increased Ultrasound reflectivity at the tip.
• ULTRA-THIN NANOLINE INSULATION COATING
Ultra-thin and ultra-smooth, NanoLine provides absolute insulation while promoting a free-gliding needle to minimize insertion resistance. Further, NanoLine coating is applied on both the outer needle surface and the inner lumen of the needle - with only the tip left bare - thus providing the absolute in insulation performance and pin-point stimulation at the needle tip.
SonoPlex STIM ll : an Evolution . . . . . . the changes are in the hub.
SonoPlex STIM ll
Removable Stimulation Cable
SonoPlex ll is perfectly suited for Stimulation guidance, Ultrasound guidance or both. For those blocks under which stimulation guidance is not employed, SonoPlex STIM ll's new hub design permits the lead wire to be detached - rather than cut - thus preserving the sterile field.
Integrated Non-Removable Injection Tubing
SonoPlex STIM ll's new hub design incorporates its injection tubing as a non-removable component of the needle, thus creating a closed system and so eliminating the possibility of leakage.
Colour Coded Hub
SonoPlex STIM ll is complete with colour coded hub for quick needle size (guage) identification.
Cornerstone Reflectors
• The embossed structures in the Cornerstone Reflectors form three surfaces which meet each other at a 90° angle guaranteeing direct or indirect reflection of the ultrasound waves - even at very steep insertion angles.
• Cornerstone Reflectors are arrayed along a length of 20 mm from the tip of the needle and moreover are arranged 360 degrees about the needle thus ensuring clear identification of the needle under Ultrasound.
NanoLine Insulation Coating
NANOLINE ultra-thin coating ensures the ultimate in smoothness of needle surface - moreover both inside and outside needle surfaces are coated, thus providing for maximum insulation. Only the needle tip is left uninsulated resulting in pin-point stimulation at the needle tip.
The presence of NanoLine insulation coating is evidenced by its gold colouring.
A note on bevel orientation for SonoPlex users converting to SonoPlex STIM ll
Original SonoPlex STIM (white hub), with the hub held as shown - stimulating wire at bottom of hub & trailing downwards - indicates needle tip orientation is BEVEL UPWARD.
New SonoPlex STIM ll (colour coded hub), with the hub held as shown - stimulating wire at top of hub - indicates needle tip orientation is BEVEL UPWARD.
